Values and Outcomes
For each of the Five Purposes, a short statement about what we hope this Adult Bible Fellowship will accomplish for its participants, accompanied by potential goals and other comments that seem helpful.
Worship: Participants are connecting with God, seeking His presence and His purpose.
Visible sign: 50% of attendees regularly attend a public worship service at least three times per month.
Fellowship: Participants feel connected to the group (as a whole).
Visible sign: the Group Covenant.
Another sign? “Pairing” of parties, a method of welcome and of follow-up.
Goal: 35% of first-time guests return for a second time.
Goal: 60% of three-time guests become regular attenders (attend three Sundays each month).
Goal: A regular attender is never absent more than twice in a row without receiving a contact expressing concern.
Goal: During April 2008, attain 20 regular attenders (attend three Sundays in April).
Comfort received through prayer requests, making needs known, and responding to participants’ needs.
Participants should also be encouraged, motivated, and challenged. (Give them a sense of “movement.”)
Responsibility to the group (Covenant).
Open group: All guests are welcome. Lessons are stand-alone; guests can benefit from each lesson as they come.
Discipleship: Regular attenders value “being like Jesus” and feel the desire to work toward it.
Visible sign: being focused on “the Word” (the Bible and Jesus).
Goal: Every six months, 25% of the regular attenders are “ready” to move on to another group experience, either long-term (another ABF) or short-term (deeper discipleship, topical study, or skill development).
Maturity is expressed in terms of “growth,” “development,” and “change;” not just in terms of becoming “stable,” “dependable,” or “reliable.”
The Fellowship rejoices and celebrates when regular attenders are “sent out.”
Ministry: Regular attenders understand that Jesus was a servant. “Being like Jesus” means giving of self in helping others to advance God’s Kingdom.
Visible sign: (help needed here)
Goal: 75% of regular attenders engage in service “outside the Fellowship” at least twice annually.
Goal: The Fellowship conducts a service project twice annually (one by May 2008).
Evangelism/Outreach: Regular attenders have the confidence to invite guests to the Fellowship.
Visible sign: The “open chair.”
Goal: 50% of regular attenders invite a guest at least twice annually.
Goal: The Fellowship launches a new group twice annually (beginning September 2008).
