Ministry to Preschoolers

by Jay Butcher last modified 2007-09-17 12:20

Ministry begins at birth! Here's why ministry to Preschoolers is important and how we approach it. There's also general information about the ministry programs we offer regularly to Preschoolers.

TRUST:  The First Building Block
of Spiritual Growth

It's all about trust!  No one can even begin to have a meaningful relationship with another person until a basis for trust has been established.  A baby needs to feel that he's loved, and a small child needs to sense that she's safe and secure with her family members.  We want to help families build that trust in their children's lives.

And we want Hatcher to be the kind of church where small children develop that same sense of trust with their church family.  It's an important step toward trusting God himself and becoming prepared to have a relationship with him through Jesus.  Our Preschool Ministry helps establish the first step in trust and relationship for children from birth through Kindergarten.  (When they enter the First Grade, they're part of our Grade-School Ministry.)

At Hatcher, we believe that spiritual life is not a religion -- it's a relationship!  And it's never too early for even the smallest child to know God made him and loves him, and that God can always be trusted to be right and to be faithful.

BibleSteps:  Our Sunday Morning Ministry
to Preschoolers

Sunday mornings at Hatcher begin at 9:00 with our Live Outloud! Community Worship.  We don't want parents of Preschoolers to miss a minute of it, so our caring BibleSteps teachers are in their places in modern, well-equipped classrooms on the first floor of the East Building.  They're ready to receive little ones at 8:45.  While moms and dads are worshiping, Preschoolers are engaged in age-appropriate activities, learning that God loves them and that church is a safe, trustworthy place.

We hope parents will remain for an Adult Bible Fellowship, learning more about the Bible and Jesus.  If they do, their Preschooler can stay right in the BibleSteps ministry center -- the Bible learning goes right on no matter where the parents are participating, until they're ready for pick-up.  Some parents may not arrive at the church until time for their Adult Bible Fellowship at 10.  That's O.K.!  BibleSteps is a "seamless" learning experience.  Our teachers give their attention to Preschoolers whether they're arriving, departing, or staying for a while.

BibleSteps is open to all Preschoolers while their parents/guardians remain on the church property.  Planning to attend our Traditional Worship Service at 11?  Your Preschooler is safe at BibleSteps until the worship service concludes.

Music and Missions:  Preschoolers Keep Learning
on Wednesday Evenings!

Cherub Choir and Angel Choir

While parents are engaged in Wednesday evening ministries, Preschoolers have "learning places" of their own.  At 6:30, it's time for Preschool Choirs.  The Cherub Choir is for 3-year olds.  4's and 5's (Kindergartners) sing in the Angel Choir.  They learn coordination, basic music skills, and simple songs.

For Preschoolers under 3, we have a Child Care Room from 6:15 to 7:30 (and later for parents who sing in the Chancel Choir).

Mission Friends

At 7:00, Preschoolers 3 to 5 in Mission Friends learn about boys and girls in countries around the world and how God loves them, too.  Even these little ones are guided in ministry activities, as they learn to help others.  Everyone's ready to head home by 7:30.

Hatcher's Child Development Center

Our CDC offers day care to Preschoolers.  For rates and availability, phone the CDC at 262-6002.
